Memories of Zhang Daqian
Zhang Daqian (1899-1983), one of themost renowned painting masters in Chinesehistory, popularized techniques of splash-inkand splash-color, which ushered in a new styleof traditional Chinese painting. After WorldWar II, Zhang held many overseas exhibitions.In 1958, his Wild Begonia won the gold awardof the New York International Art Association,gaining him the title “Global Painting Master.”In 1974, the University of California Pacificgranted him an honorable Ph.D. of Arts. Zhangleft China and traveled the world after 1949, butsettled in Taipei in 1976. Organized throughcooperation between art museums in Taiwanand the mainland, the exhibition includes over100 pieces by Zhang Daqian.

Picturesque Jian Qingfu
In the 1940s, Jian Qingfu was admitted toShanghai Art College, where he was mentored by artmasters such as Liu Haisu and Zhang Chongren. Hereturned to Hong Kong in 1948 and became a seniormember of the Photographic Society of Hong Kong.He was granted star membership of the PhotographicSociety of America at the age of 30. Now 90 yearsold, Jian has never stopped taking pictures sincehe began in the 1930s, focusing on documentaryimages in his early career and landscapes later on.In August 2009, the Chinese Photographers Societyhonored him with its Lifetime Achievement Award.
